Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026. This policy is written for users in the United Kingdom.

Who we are

BudgetHive is a personal budgeting tool operated by Zahra Javed. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, Zahra Javed is the data controller for the account data you provide.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address and, optionally, your name.
  • Budget data you enter: transactions, categories, budgets and savings goals.
  • Technical data needed to keep you signed in and keep the service secure.

We do not connect to your bank, and we never ask for card numbers, account numbers or sort codes.

Lawful basis

We process your data to perform our contract with you (providing the budgeting service) and on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working correctly.

Cookies and similar technologies

We only use strictly necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Who we share data with

  • Our hosting and database provider, which stores your account and budget data on our behalf.
  • Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record, if you subscribe to BudgetHive Plus. Paddle handles the sale, payments, subscription management, invoicing and tax compliance, and is the controller of the payment data you give it. We only receive your subscription status.
  • Our AI provider, if you use the Money Coach, to generate a reply to your question.
  • Professional advisers, and authorities where we are required to share data by law.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens, transfers are protected by an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. We aim to respond within one month. You can edit or delete your budget data at any time from within the app, and you can request account deletion by contacting us.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Retention and security

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active and is deleted or anonymised when your account is removed or it is no longer needed. Records are protected by encryption in transit, access controls and row-level security, so only you can read or change your own data. Billing records held by Paddle are kept for as long as UK tax law requires.
